Obituary

Richard P. Smith age 90 of Moultonborough NH, formerly of Salem, NH, died Sunday at his home in Moultonborough.

He was born & raised in Salem, NH and graduated from Woodbury High School in 1937, where he was active in 3 sports. He later graduated from UNH in 1941 with a BS in Civil Engineering. He spent 4 1/2 years in the US Army during World War II, and was discharged with the rank of Captain.

Mr. Smith was employed at various architectural & engineering companies. He was a former school board member for 9 years, former planning board member, and was Town Engineer for 7 ½ years in the 1970’s. He owned and operated Salem’s first coin-operated laundry for 7 years. He participated in design & layout of Geremonty Dr. & Salem High School. He was also a member of the First Congregational Church in Salem.

He was a widower of Helena (Clark) Smith, who died in 1948 and of Elinor Grace (Richardson) Smith who died in 2001. He was also predeceased by his daughter Leslie Camire.

He is survived by his son: William P. Smith of Moultonborough

Daughter: Barbara & her Husband Mark Richter of Moultonborough.

5 Grandchildren: Melissa Camire, Matthew Camire, Kyle Richter, Craig Richter, & Amanda Smith

1 Great Granddaughter: Isabelle Camire

At the family’s request there are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private for the family at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem.
