WORCESTER___Walter E. Bohmann, 96, of Worcester died Wednesday, February 10, in his home. His wife, Anne R. (Berry) Bohmann died in 1995. He leaves two daughters, Carolyn Mac Donald and her husband, Bruce of West Yarmouth and Jean O'Leary and her husband, Michael of Millbury; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was born in Worcester, the son of Louis E. and Mary Ellen (Trask) Bohmann.
A lifelong Worcester resident, Mr. Bohmann retired as Principal of Providence Street Jr. High School in 1976, after teaching 40 years in the Worcester Schools. He graduated from the former Commerce High School and received his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education from Fitchburg State College. During WWII, he served in the US Navy as an Ensign, on the USS Pillsbury, DE 133, after having served with the Army National Guard. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. Walter was a member of the Montecute Lodge A.F. and M.M. Lodge of Masons, a past president and member of the Col. William Henshaw Chapter of the S.A.R. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America, receiving Eagle Scout in 1930 and serving as Scoutmaster for Troop 16. Mr. Bohmann was a member and former officer of the South Worcester County Retired Teachers Association, the Retired State, County and Municipal Employee Association and first president for the Worcester Public Schools Administrators Association.
The funeral will be held on Monday, February 15, with a service at 10:30 a.m. in Covenant United Methodist Church, 24 Hamilton St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
