DRACUT: Mary A. (Kennedy) Smith, age 81, a resident of Dracut for the past 13 years, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Lowell General Hospital.
She was the beloved wife of William H. Smith, Jr., who passed away on April 11, 1992.
Born in Wakefield on April 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Dillon) Kennedy.
Mrs. Smith was raised in Medford, and graduated from Medford High School in 1946.
She resided in Tewksbury from 1960 until 1989, where she was a communicant of St. Williams Parish. While living in Tewksbury, she was a member of the Tewksbury Little League Auxiliary and assisted in the founding of the concession stand at the East Street Fields. In addition, she was a member and volunteer for the Tewksbury Camp Fire Girls Organization.
Mrs. Smith resided in Nashua, NH until moving to Dracut in 1996. During the winter months, she enjoyed spending time in Port Orange, FL.
She is survived by one daughter, Eileen Smith-Mayo of Dracut; three sons, William H. Smith, III and his wife Jacqueline of Hampton, NH, Thomas V. Smith and his wife Sherylann of N. Andover and Richard J. Smith and his wife Laura of Kemper, TX; eight grandchildren, Lauryn J. Smith, William H. Smith, IV, Lisa M. and E. Kelsey Smith, Robert E. and Colleen M. Mayo, Arica E. and Kyle R. Smith; one great grand-daughter, Gracie E. Mayo; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smith was the sister of the late Margaret M. Hawko, Joseph V., Thomas W. and John E. Kennedy. Calling hours Wed., Feb. 17, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Thurs., Feb. 18, at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
