DUDLEY – Mary C. (Reed) Canty, 95, of Hickory Drive, died Friday, February 12, in Oakwood Rehab & Nursing Center. Her husband of 30 years, Henry F. Canty, died in 1969.
She leaves two sons, Brian T. Canty and his wife Diane F. of Dudley and Kevin M. Canty and his wife Marie L. Torone of Worcester; two grandchildren, Kimberly L. Lundquist and her husband Paul of Dudley and Sean H. Canty and his wife Laura of Charlton; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Frances O’Day of Worcester; nieces and nephews; and three close family friends, Darryl and Susan Cyr and Teresa Kaliszewski, all of Webster. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Orlo “Babe” Reed and by two sisters, Pearl Downer and Ellen Allen.
She was born in Dalton, a daughter of Orlo and Catherine (Donohue) Reed. She lived in Webster from 1941 to 1971. She then lived in Worcester until 2001, when she moved to her son’s home in Dudley.
Mrs. Canty was an assembler at Webster Spring Company in Oxford for 25 years, retiring in 1974.
She was a member of Saint Louis Church in Webster and the Association of the Miraculous Medal. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and traveling with her sisters.
The funeral will be held Friday, February 19, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, February 18, in the funeral home.
