Obituary



John R. Duxbury, 81, a resident of Hingham for 51 years passed away Monday February 8, 2010 with his family by his side.

Beloved son of the late Marion and George Duxbury, and predeceased by six sisters and two brothers, John leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Claire (Wood); two children, Cynthia Moore and John, Jr. and his daughter-in-law Polly (Staman); grandchildren Nicole, Alexandra and William and many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in North Adams, Ma, he graduated from Drury High School in 1946.

John served in the United States Army and was a World War II veteran serving in Italy.
He was a member of the Edward Ball Cole American Legion Post 120 of Hingham and the Wm. R. Cutler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6053 of Hingham.

He attended Boston University achieving his JD from Boston University Law School in 1954. A member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, he was an attorney with The Travelers Insurance Company for 30 years, thereafter representing the Guarantee Fund as a litigant for 5 years.

During his life he enjoyed traveling with his wife and fulfilled a life long dream when he was able to travel to England and discover the home of his ancestry. He had a great love for literature and classical music and much of his time was spent enjoying his extensive collections of both.

Friends and family are invited to gather on Saturday February 20, at 10:30 for visitation followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street, Hingham.
