NATICK: Dorothy A. (Zimmerman) Reed died peacefully in the comfort of her family following a brief illness on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland.
She was born in Billings, Oklahoma on December 2, 1925 the daughter of the late William C. Zimmerman and Iva C. (Spencer) Zimmerman.
Dorothy was the beloved mother of Lynne Reed of Asheville, N.C.; John J. Reed of Sudbury; Alexandra Reed and her husband Wulfdieter Klemm of Los Angeles, CA and Mark Reed of San Francisco, CA. She was the loving grandmother of Carey Pettaway of Asheville, N.C.; Lauren Reed of Madison, WI and Matthew Reed of Sudbury. She also leaves her brother-in-law James Reed and his wife Mary Reed of Wayland and her former husband Homer B. C. Reed of Hopkinton.
Dorothy spent her formative years in Syracuse, Kansas and was a graduate of Syracuse High School. She received her BA in Music from Emporia State College in Kansas, her Masters in Counseling from Northeastern University and a Diploma in Gerontology from UMass Boston. She was a resident of Wayland for over 20 years and of Natick for the past 24 years. Dorothy was a member of the League of Women Voters in Wayland and was an avid sports fan and enjoyed all of the Boston teams. She loved music and was devoted to her family.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Wayland.
Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 9:30 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 39 East Central Street, Natick with the Rev. Jon C. Strand officiating.
Interment will follow in the Reed family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
