Obituary



Lionel M. "Nel" Gauvin 89, formerly of Bear Hill Rd. Cumberland, died Monday at The Friendly Home in Woonsocket. He was the husband of the late Therese G. (St. Gelais) Gauvin. Mr. Gauvin was born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Charles and Lydia (Bernard) Gauvin, and lived most of his life in Woonsocket and N. Smithfield. He was employed by Uni-Royal Co. for over twenty five years and then worked as a cook for the Zamborano Hospital for several years and retired from the North Smithfield School Department twenty-four years ago. Mr. Gauvin was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus #5270 in North Smithfield, he was a member of L'Association Canado- Americain , and St. Agatha's Senior Citizens. He received the Volunteer of the Year Award at Harvard Health in Lincoln and also volunteered at the Friendly Home.

Mr. Gauvin is survived by three daughters Denise J. Nerny of The Villages, FL, Marcelle G. Gauvin of Westport, MA, and Jeanne C. Dutremble of Mapleville, a sister Estelle Caron of Woonsocket, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. He was also the brother of the late Charles Gauvin , Leonie Crepeau, and Louise Forget.

His funeral will be held Monday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St. Woonsocket ,with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. John's Church, Church St. Slatersville. Burial will be private. Visiting Hours are Sunday 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Blvd., East Providence, RI 02914 in his memory would be appreciated.
