GLOUCESTER, MA: Barbara F. (Harrington) Skerry, 88, of Vine Street, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John B. Skerry, who died in September of 2000.
Born in Cranston, Rhode Island on March 30, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Clarence D. and Mabel (Kennison) Harrington. She was a graduate of the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Skerry was employed as a registered nurse for numerous hospitals during her career. Her husband worked for the National Marine Fisheries Service and throughout their lives they moved over twenty times. Wherever they resided, she made a warm, welcoming home for her family. She has been a resident of Gloucester since 2005.
An avid knitter, during the past two years she knit over 100 wool helmet liners, which she donated to our troops overseas.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John B., Jr. and Judith (Grace) Skerry of Gloucester, daughter and son-in-law, Gail and George Jones of Fox Island, WA, four grandchildren, Kimberly, Jeffrey, Nathaniel and Margaret, four great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Jill Johnson of CT, and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held privately by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
