Obituary

Revis McDonald, 84, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, February 12, 2010, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held 4 P.M., Saturday, February 13 in the Revis McDonald Cemetery, Ben Hill County with J. Brian Bergeron of Our Divine Savior Catholic Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:30 Saturday afternoon at the funeral home.

Mr. McDonald was born March 3, 1925 in Coffee County to the late Jesse and Sarah Metts McDonald. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. McDonald was a successful farmer, known for growing tobacco and hogs. In 1963 he was named Farmer Of The Year by Ford Motor Company. He was active in 4-H and FFA youth activities, supporting his children through multiple awards in both corn and beef production. Mr. McDonald was known to many as “PaPa”. He was a loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by his children: Darrell McDonald, Greg (Carol) McDonald, Shellah Owens, John McDonald and Tim (Denise) McDonald, all of Fitzgerald; mother of his children: Elrea Sayer McDonald, also of Fitzgerald; 9 grandchildren: Jessie Bryan Carver and Ryan McDonald, both of Fitzgerald, Delena McDonald of Cochran, Charles McDonald and Austin McDonald, both of Valdosta, Tyler McDonald, Sydney McDonald, Abby McDonald and Ty McDonald, all of Fitzgerald and 5 great grandchildren; brothers: Sherrell (Carol) McDonald of Seven Hills, OH and Eugene (Marie) McDonald of Willacoochee; sister: Estelle Sumler of Fredericksburg, VA as well as several nieces and nephews.
