Judge Allen Gay, 60, of Irwin County, died Thursday, February 11, 2010, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, February 14 in the main courtroom of the Irwin County Court House with Elder Edward McIntyre and Elder Raybon Lord officiating. Rev. Ray Johnson will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Eureka Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5-9 at the courthouse.
Judge Gay was born October 22, 1949 in Ocilla to Sara Eugenia Adams Gay and the late Charlie Hugh Wilcox Gay. He lived in Irwin County all of his life, graduating from Irwin County High School in 1968. Judge Gay was a farmer, former Woodmen Of The World representative and currently in his second term as Probate Judge for Irwin County. He was a former Irwin County Commissioner, serving two terms, a former board member for the Irwin County Hospital and a member of the Georgia Association of Probate Judges. Judge Gay attended Eureka Primitive Baptist Church and was a member of the Ocilla Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years: Linda Eason Gay of Irwin County; sons and daughters-in-law: Michael & Becky Gay of Ben Hill County and Lance & Windi Gay of Irwin County; daughter and son-in-law: Amelia & Phillip Edwards of Irwin County; mother: Sara Eugenia A. Gay of Irwin County; grandchildren: Sarah Edwards, Tyler (Dianna) Edwards, Matthew Edwards, Ethan Edwards, Abby Gay, Anna Beth Gay, Jordan Cano and Brent Britt; great granddaughter: Allie Newell; brother and sister-in-law: Russell & Roxane Gay of Irwin County; niece and nephew: Shannon Gay and Cody Gay. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Kevin Allen Gay.
