GLOUCESTER: Ann E. “Betty” (Welch) Daley, 71, passed away in her home on Thursday, February 11, 2010 alongside her loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Boston on January 19, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Harold Norwood Welch and Rachel (Brooks) Welch. She was a graduate of Lexington High School and the Burdett Business College. She had resided in Arlington and Middleton for many years before moving to Gloucester. Betty spent her summers in Gloucester on Brier Neck for many years before making it her year round home in 1979.
Betty was employed at Arthur D. Little in Cambridge for several years. She also once worked at Beverly Hospital and for Dr. Donald Hanscom. Being a mother and grandmother were her greatest joys in life. Betty was loved both near and far by so many family and friends. She enjoyed her family, cooking, gardening, traveling and entertaining. Her special joy was drinking Rum Swizzles in Bermuda with her closest friends.
She is survived by her four children, Linda (Daley) DeMeule and her husband, Richard and Susan (Daley) Mills and her fiancé, Mark DellaCroce all of Gloucester, Gerry Daley and his wife, Kimberly (Chambers) Daley of Frederick, MD and Scott Daley of Gloucester; seven grandchildren, Rachel DeMeule of Portland ME, Alison and Andrew DeMeule and Hannah and Ryan Mills all of Gloucester and Alyssa and Tyler Daley of Frederick, MD; several nieces and nephews and her dearest friend, Gretchen Golden of Rockport.
Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday in the First Congregational Church of Rockport, 12 School St., Rockport at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
