Obituary

Charles Gilman of Malden and formerly of Chelsea and Medford died on February 10, 2010 at the Winchester Hospital. He was 84 years old. Charles was the beloved husband of the late Rachel (Levine) Gilman.

Charles was born in Chelsea and attended the Chelsea schools and high school. Charles served in the United States Army from 1947 to 1950 during which time he received a Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and a United Nations Service Medal. He was a clerk in the Postal Service and a member of the Jewish War Veterans. Charles loved watching movies and television and enjoyed eating out at restaurants (Chinese was his favorite).

Charles was the devoted father of Nancy Grassi and her husband John and Gail O’Connor and her husband Gregory. He was the dear brother of the late Myer Gelman, Becky Novak, Francis Tuton, Leonard Gilman, and Harold Gilman. Charles was the loving grandfather of Kevin, Ryan, & Sean. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services at the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave. (Cary Sq.) Chelsea on Sunday, Feb. 14th at 1:00 PM. Interment in Melrose. Memorial observance at the home of Nancy & John Grassi on Sun. following interment until 8PM and Mon. from 2:30 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 9 Riverside Rd., Weston, MA 02493; American Diabetes Assoc., 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210; American Heart Assoc., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to a charity of your choice.
