ROCKVILLE, MD__ Anna Aldona Balsiunas, 97, formerly of Worcester, MA, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 in Collingswood Nursing Home, Rockville, MD. She leaves several cousins among whom are Eleanor V. Duvall of Potomac MD and Edward Hjerpe of West Palm Beach, FL. She was predeceased by her lifelong friend and companion Nick Nigro. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of Adam and Nellie (Barauskas) Balsiunas and was a resident of the Vernon Hill area for 90 years.
Ms. Balsiunas graduated from the former Commerce High School in Worcester, MA and Henry Heywood Hospital School of Nursing, Gardner, MA. She worked as an Operating Room Nurse at the former Fairlawn Hospital and later worked with Dr. Edmond Fairbanks for thirty-two years before retiring in 1979. Aldona was a former member of Our Lady of Vilna Church and St. Casimir Church. She also belonged to the Guild of Our Lady of Providence, the Henry Heywood Hospital SON Alumni Association, the National AARP, the Worcester Senior Center and the former Worcester Professional Woman's Club.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 13, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Casimir's Church, 41 Providence St., Worcester, MA. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
