Obituary

FRANKLIN—Mary Kathleen (Lynagh) Sachs 87, of Franklin, died Tuesday February 9, 2010 at Brigham Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Newburyport, MA. She was the wife of the late Paul F. Sachs, who died in 1994.
Born in Bradford, Ma August 23, 1922 a daughter of the late Joseph R. and Ruth G. (Sullivan) Lynagh, she was raised and educated in New Jersey, and was a 1940 graduate of Clifford Scott High School in East Orange New Jersey. Mrs. Sachs worked for many years at Burner’s Gift Shop in Upper Montclair, NJ, and for more than 12 years, as the manager for Sackett’s Gift Shop in the Walpole Mall, until her retirement.
During World War II, she served in the United States Navy; she attained the rank of communications specialist 3rd class, and was responsible for decoding transmissions. She was honorably discharged in November 1945.
Mrs. Sachs was a member and daily communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Franklin, she enjoyed her many years at the Bellingham Senior Center. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, and spending time with family. The happiest days of her life were spent at “Hob Nob Cottage” at Plum Island Point.
She is survived by four daughters; Mary Beth D’Errico and her husband Joel of Franklin with whom she lived since 1998, Katherine Ferlauto of Newburyport, MA, Joan Vella and her husband Carl of St. Petersburg, Fl., & Anne Costello of Grafton, MA., three sons; Thomas B. Sachs of Philadelphia, PA., Alan D. Sachs of Wrentham, MA., & Christopher R. Sachs of Norton, MA., her grandchildren Jay & Chris D’Errico of Franklin, Kristen (Vella) Moss and her husband David of St. Petersburg, FL., Marc Vella of St. Petersburg, FL., Lt. Jeffrey Ferlauto and his wife Alison of Portsmouth, NH., Charles Ferlauto of Newburyport, Dorian Ferlauto and her fiancé Jake Jenkins of Boulder, CO., Austin Costain of Newburyport, Sarah Ann Sachs and her husband David of Morristown, NJ., Jamie Sachs of Salmon Creek, CA., Erik, Lauren & Lindsey Costello of Grafton.
Kathleen “Mema” Sachs is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Sachs was also the sister of the late Betty Ann Lynagh, Joseph Lynagh, and Rosemary Scanlon.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral with military honors Saturday Feb. 13th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, (www.franklinfuneral.com), with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin, at 10AM.
Interment will be private.
