Derry, New Hampshire – William P. Ringland, 95, died Tuesday February 9, 2010 at the Lawrence General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lawrence August 24, 1914 he was the son of James and Mary (Callahan) Ringland Mr. Ringland was a graduate of Lawrence High School class of 1934. Bill played on the Lawrence High School baseball team and was a pitcher on the team when they won the Essex county championship in 1934. He continued to pitch with the City of Lawrence League until the age of 41.
For many years he was the superintendant of J.H. Horne machinery before his retirement.
Mr. Ringland was a communicant of Saint Patricks Church of South Lawrence, and during world war II he served his country in the United States Army Air Force prior to being honorably discharged at wars end.
Mr. Ringland was a member of Post # 8546 American Legion in Salem, New Hampshire, a former golfer at Merrimack Valley Country Club, a former member of the Methuen Club, and was according to his family a very gifted athlete.
William was the widower of Dorothy (Hamilton) Ringland, and is survived by one sister Marguerite Burke of North Andover, a brother Joseph J. Ringland of Lawrence and many nieces and nephews including Jack Ringland, Sharon Remillard, Jane LeGendre, Andy Cantrell and Ellen Smith who were also his loving caregivers.
Mr. Ringland was pre-deceased by sisters and brother Theresa McKenna, Mary Callahan, and John Ringland.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock in Saint Patrick Church of South Lawrence with burial to follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery of Lawrence.
Friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday from 4-7 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home in Methuen.
