Obituary

Mrs. Filomena Machado, age 86 of Medford, formerly of Hudson MA. died Tuesday in Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was the loving wife of the late Joao Machado. She was born in Portugal, daughter of the late Joao DeChaves Loura and Maria Mureira (Sousa) Loura. In earlier years she worked as a Machine Operator, employed by a company that made security locks.
She loved to knit and crochet. She was an avid reader and was known as a wonderful cook bringing recipes from the old country with her. She was a devout catholic and rarely missed the televised Mass in her native language, Portuguese. Prior to moving to Medford, she was active in the Portuguese Association in Hudson. These activities gave her comfort and kept her busy, however nothing was closer to her heart than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by 2 daughters, Virginia Tavares and her husband George of Medford, Tina Andrade and her husband Tony of Somerville and is the mother of the late Joao Machado. Loving grandmother of Mac, Jane, Kevin and Michelle and loving great grandmother of Deanna and Dylan. She leaves two sisters, Eugenia Chaves and her husband Joao of Hudson, Helena Chaves and her husband Herculand of RI. Sister of the late Maria Luz. Dear aunt of several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours Friday from 4 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, Saturday at 10:00 am.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Contributions in Filomena’s name may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, Attention: Development Department, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
