Richard S. Sampson, of Plymouth, passed away on February 8th at the age of 66. Born in Plymouth, Richard attended Plymouth schools. When he was young, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as an electrician on the USS Topeka during Vietnam. After serving in the Navy, he was proud to work on his grandfather’s cranberry bog. Richard was a self-employed lobsterman for over 40 years, had worked for Churchill’s Oil for over 20 years and had also been a volunteer firefighter in Plymouth, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM and the Lobsterman’s Association. He and his wife of 43 years, Louisa, enjoyed spending time in Ft. Myers every year for the past 20 years. A warm-hearted person who would help anyone, he was known for his sense of humor and being a handy-man that would build anything that someone needed. He enjoyed the ocean, the beach, the outdoors, and especially spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Louisa of Plymouth and his children Cynthia Sampson-Jackson and her husband Wayne, Richard S. Sampson Jr. and his wife Michele, Sheila Donaghey and her husband Chris and Lisa Sampson. He also leaves his sisters Barbara Delancey and Betsy Chase and his greatest joy, his 6 grandchildren Jeffrey, Mason, Colby, Isabella and twins Kelsey and Ryan and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 13th at the 2nd Church of Plymouth at 11 AM followed by burial at the Manomet Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rt 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) on Friday, February 12th from 4 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in his memory be made to Mass. General Hospital Cancer Center, 165 Cambridge St, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114 or to the American Cancer Society – Plymouth Unit, 1115 W. Chestnut St, Brockton, MA 02301.
