Obituary

Harold W. Lavers, 86, of N. Andover died on Friday February 5, 2010 at Salem Memorial Hospital, Salem, Ma. Harold was born in Lawrence, Ma. on February 5, 1924 to the late Harold and Sarah (Kelley) Lavers. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School class of 1942 and a graduate of Bentley College of Accounting and Finance in 1966. He enlisted in The US Navy during WW II and was a signalman in The Armed Guard on Merchant Marine ships, William M. Meredith and Esso Augusta. Following his military service in 1946, he began a long and successful career holding various positions with Albert Schlott Co., Dalrymple Oil Co., Merchant Tire Co. and Nassar Ford. He retired at the age of 85 and a half. he was a 50 years member of John Hancock Lodge, AF & AM, Methuen and The Methuen VFW and American Legion. His family members include his wife, Mary (Albers) Packard Lavers and he was the widower of Marion (Marsh) Lavers. He leaves 3 step-sons, Frank and his wife , Rose Heymans of Methuen, Ma., Stephen and his wife , Catherine Packard of Newport, Maine and David Packard of Andover, Ma. and step-daughters, Ann (Packard) Boyd and her husband, James Boyd of Bedford, Ma and Christine (Packard) Fleming and her husband, James Fleming of Auburn, NH . he also leaves several step- grandchildren and step- great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins including his cousin, Patricia and her husband, Walter Topham of Methuen. and was pre-deceased by his sister, Doris Lavers Dow and step-daughter, Carol (Heymans) Caron.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Lawrence General Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehab for their outstanding care and compassion of our loved one.
Calling hours will be on Thursday February 11, 2010 from 3 to 7 pm at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday February 12 at 11:00 am in St Patricks Church, Lawrence. The burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
