Thomas Arthur Damery, 77, of Mattapoisett passed away Monday February 8, 2010 in New Bedford after a lengthy illness. He grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, and was a graduate of Lexington High School. He served in Korea with the U. S. Army. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1957 from Boston University. He worked in a variety of purchasing and administrative functions with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – Lincoln Laboratory for twenty-five years. He helped develop a, widely adopted Physics curriculum entitled the Physical Science Study Committee. Tom was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman and camper. He especially enjoyed fishing for Atlantic Salmon and cherished a number of trips to Atlantic Canada. Tom enjoyed working outdoors on his woodlot and played both softball and hockey. He was a 50 year member the Simon W. Robinson Masonic Lodge in Lexington. He and his wife June enjoyed traveling around the US, to St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and to Europe. He held a passion for summer’s in Owl’s Head, Maine. The entire family enjoyed hosting family and guests, sailing, fishing, picnicking, hiking and clamming for more than forty-seven summers. Upon retiring to Mattapoisett he developed a love for the game of golf. He was a longtime member of the Reservation Golf Club in Mattapoisett and the Rockland Golf Club in Rockland, Maine. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years June (Crowell), two sons David and his wife Constance of Greenfield, Massachusetts and Mark of Lafayette, Colorado and one daughter Susan and her husband John of Concord, Massachusetts. He also leaves three grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church, 27 Church Street, Mattapoisett, MA beginning at 2:00PM Friday February 26. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Marshall Point Lighthouse Museum, Marshall Point Road, P.O. Box 247, Port Clyde, ME 04855 or to the charity of your choice.
