Robert Francis Ledbetter, 98, Clarksville, went to be with his Lord and Savior, died Monday, February 8, 2010, at Gateway Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Forest Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Dowdy and Rev. Paul Tramel officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home and from 12:00 P.M. until the hour of the service Thursday at the church. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born on August 11, 1911 in Donna, Texas, son of the late Robert Brown Ledbetter and MayBell Parke Ledbetter. He was preceded in death by one brother, Willard Parke, a sister, Elaine Oates, and a sister, Allie May Soule. Mr. Ledbetter proudly served his country as a radar operator in the Army Air Corp in World War II and retired from Civil Service. He was a devout Christian and member of Forest Street United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent and layleader for many years. He was known in his church family as a prayer warrior who seemed to have a direct connection to the Lord. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Martha Ann; daughter, Carolyn (Tom) Vertrees; son, Dale (Marty) Ledbetter; grandchildren, Michelle (Austin) Harris; Elizabeth (Jon) Shepherd; Thomas (Summer)Vertrees; David Ledbetter and Gregry Ledbetter; great grandchildren, Jenna and Ryan Shepherd, Daniel and Wesley Vertrees; step-brother, Mel Clark, and step-sister, MaryLee Christianson. Pallbearers will be Austin Harris, David Ledbetter, Greg Ledbetter, Jon Shepherd, Thomas Vertrees, and Houston Ellis. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Forest Street United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 416 Church Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
