Obituary

MOYNA, Robert S., age 91, of Allamuchy, NJ, formerly of Oradell, NJ and Hackettstown, NJ died on February 2, 2010.

Beloved husband of 61 years of the late Gloria Moyna (nee Algarotti). Devoted father of Glory (Aiken) of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Melanie Moyna of New Canaan, CT and Mark Moyna of Blairstown, NJ. Predeceased by his sister Frances Moyna Curry. Loving grandfather of Daniel Havlin, Michael Havlin, Diana Havlin, Caroline Lopez, David Mandler, and Elizabeth, Hannah, and Mark Moyna.

Born to Elizabeth and Terence Moyna in Manhattan, NY, Bob grew up in Moonachie, NJ on the edge of the meadowlands, where his love and passion for fishing, hunting and nature began. He graduated from Ridgefield Park High School, entered the U.S. Army and received his wings in the Army Air Corps on July 26, 1942. As Captain, he served as Squadron Commander in the South Pacific and New Guinea during which time he flew 60 combat missions as a B-25 Pilot. Decorations include: Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 7 Battle Stars and Philippine Liberation with 1 Bronze star. He attended numerous 82nd Bomb Squadron reunions and was present at the dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC in 2005.

After the War, he married Gloria Algarotti and they lived in Oradell for 45 years. They enjoyed being a part of the community and raised three children there. Bob flew as a private pilot for a textile company and later became an executive salesman in the garment industry, which led to a lifelong appreciation for fine goods and clothing. He retired from Golding Industries at the age of 80. He and Gloria retired to Panther Valley, Allamuchy, NJ in 1998. He loved New York City, was proud of his Irish heritage, and never missed marching in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. A special gift included exceptional eyesight and an uncanny ability to spot the one four-leaf clover in the patch. He maintained an extraordinary will to succeed and achieve, and 7 months before his death he traveled to Clogher, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland for a family reunion which included Moyna’s from all over the world. A man of firm convictions and commanding presence, his actions were softened by his love and desire to see his children and grandchildren at their best. A devoted father and grandfather, he passed his love of hunting, saltwater and freshwater fishing, hiking, bird watching and love of country to his family. To this day, the family feels his boundless energy, curiosity and love.
