Fall River – Joseph Souza Moniz, 91, of Westport died February 6, 2010 at the Highlander Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
Mr. Moniz was born in Tiverton, RI, son of the late Manuel S. and Amelia P. (Branco) Moniz. He resided in Adamsville, RI and the Westport area most of his life and was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. He worked as a self-employed carpenter until his retirement in 1983 at which time he moved to Longview, TX where he resided until 1999 when he returned to Tiverton to stay with family. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and bowling and was an avid gardener and farmer.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Marlene M. Samson of Westport and Elaine M. Potter of Tiverton, RI; a son: Michael D. Moniz of Longview, TX; 2 brothers: John Moniz of Charlestown, SC and Harry Moniz of Little Compton, RI; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many nieces & nephews; and his former wife: Irene M. (Pontes) Moniz.
He was predeceased by his son, Joseph S. Moniz, Jr. and his siblings, Mary Donovan, Belmeida Cook, Manuel and William Moniz.

Funeral from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 9:00 A.M followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church at 10:00 A.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
