Justine Metrick of Mystic passed away Saturday, February 5, 2010 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Cambridge, MA on September 30, 1945 to the late Raymond and Olga (Bulavko) Metrick.
Justine graduated from Watertown High School in 1963 and from the University of Massachusetts in 1967 with a degree in microbiology. Later, she earned Masters’ Degrees from Eastern and from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
After graduating from college, she moved to Connecticut where she lived until her death. She taught biology and chemistry at Fitch Senior High School from early 1968 until her retirement.
She enjoyed travelling, and she and her husband “Mase”, took turns choosing summer travel destinations, and later they travelled with a group of close friends, with whom Justine continued to travel after her husband’s death. Besides travelling, she spent her time in earlier years doing a variety of crafts, knitting, sewing, and cooking. She had a large collection of cookbooks and recipes, an interest she shared with her mother. Because she loved to read, after her retirement she volunteered at the Mystic & Noank Library. Spending time with family and friends was always a source of much enjoyment. Justine had a loving and caring spirit and as such cared for her husband, sister, and mother during times of grave illness.
She is survived by her nephew, Billy Thoburn of Quincy, MA, her aunt Anne of Revere, MA, her aunt Nina of Cranston, RI; her uncle Mike of Walpole, MA; her stepchildren, Amity Prior and husband Eric and their children, Evan, Owen, and Emma of Jacksonville, FL, Becky Andrews and her son Colton of St. Petersburg, FL and Mason Andrews of Seminole, FL, as well as many loving cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Mason Andrews, her parents, her sister Claudia and brother-in-law William Thoburn.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Saturday at 11:30am. Private burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery.
