Beverly J. (Dias) Gray, 77, of Norton passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday February 6, 2010 at the Life Care Center in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late former Norton Selectman Lester R.A. Gray to whom she was wed for 36 years at the time of his death on April 17, 1985.
Born in East Providence, Rhode Island on June 23, 1932 she was a daughter of the late John and Louise (Pike) Dias.
She spent her early childhood living in the Riverside section of East Providence, her family later moved to Dighton where she was raised on the family’s farm “The Old Dighton Farm” and was educated in Dighton schools.
In addition to being a dedicated homemaker to her adoring family Mrs. Gray had also been employed for several years in the preparation department at the former Clearfloat, Inc. in Attleboro.
A resident of Norton for the past 56 years, Beverly was a member of Chartley United Methodist Church and the Norton Senior Center, where she enjoyed playing bingo with friends.
For many years Beverly and her late husband were active in Norton town elections and assisted as a vote counter. She looked forward to helping the Hagopian family of Attleboro with their annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner.
Family was the essence of her life, she generously helped with her grandchildren’s education and will always be remembered for her exceptional cooking skills and the meticulous manner in which she took care of her home in Norton.
Beverly and her family enjoyed camping with friends along the Cape Cod Canal and in New Hampshire. She had a heart of gold and would always go the extra mile to help others in need.
She is survived by her devoted sons Lester R. A. Gray and his wife Deborah of Attleboro and Steven J. Gray and his wife Tammy of Attleboro. She was the dear sister of Agnes DelSignore of Rehoboth, Marion Rose of North Carolina, Nancy Windle of Arkansas, Carol Miller of South Carolina, Kathrine Varney of Mansfield, Earle Dias of Rehoboth, William Dias of Florida and the late Howard, John and Clifford Dias. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Nevada, Chartley, Zachary, Candace, Samantha and Kimberlee as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services and visitation will be held at the convenience of her family at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home in Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Center Cemetery in Norton.
