Amos Carvalho, age 87, of Somerset passed away at the Sakonnet Bay Manor after a brief illness on February 6, 2010. Husband of Conceicao “Sara” (Gaspar) Carvalho and son of the late Amos and Frances (Pontiff) Carvalho. He was a devoted husband to Sara and they had just recently (Sep 1-09) celebrated their 62nd anniversary. He was a Teamster and worked for Cox Paper, Amatron and Bizko Companys. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran awarded three battle stars. He served in the German Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe as an antiaircraft artillery gun crewman. He was an avid golfer (with two holes-in-one) and an avid bowler. He was a long-time member of the Montaup Country Club in Portsmouth, RI and the North End Bowling Leagues. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 228 in Somerset.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 brothers: Manuel Carvalho of Fall River, Arthur Carvalho and wife Peggy of Foley, Alabama and Alfred Carvalho of Fall River, 1 sister: Emma Pavao and husband Daniel of Somerset and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. WEDNESDAY at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John of God Church, Brayton Ave., Somerset at 9 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours TUESDAY 4-8 P.M.
