Obituary

Henry “Haynes” Moorhead, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Friday, February 5, 2010 in Franklin, Tennessee.

Mr. Moorhead was born on April 19, 1922 in Fitzgerald to the late Henry Augustus and Grace Haynes Moorhead. He graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1940 and later enlisted in the Army and served in the Pacific during World War II. Upon returning to Fitzgerald, he farmed his family land and served as chairman of the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Committee and was a long time member of the Ben Hill Farm Bureau Committee. Following his retirement, Mr. Moorhead enjoyed travelling the country with his wife in their RV and creating beautiful furniture for his family in his wood-working shop. Mr. Moorhead was a Mason for over 60 years and a member and deacon of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Baraca Sunday School Class. He was also a former member, deacon and Sunday School teacher of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. More recently, he enjoyed being a member of the McDonald’s Coffee Club.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Johnnie B. Moorhead of Fitzgerald; his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Bill Caldwell of Franklin, TN; two granddaughters, Julie Caldwell of Nashville, TN and Mandee Caldwell of Newnan, GA; a great-grandson, Will Caldwell of Nashville, TN; two sisters, Mary Frances Brewster of Cedartown, GA and Jackie Young of Savannah, GA and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three infant daughters and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald on Monday, February 8th at 1:00 P.M. and will be officiated by Dr. Mike Ruffin and Reverend Steve Stokes. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 7th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to your favorite charity or to First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald’s building fund.
