Carmelia R. (Rogers) Duponte, 94, of Mattapoisett died February 5, 2010 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home.
She was the wife of the late Charles W. Duponte.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Henrique and Januaria (Teixeira) Rogers, she lived in New Bedford before moving to Mattapoisett in 1964.
Mrs. Duponte was formerly employed as a teacher at St. James-St. John's School and Holy Family for many years until her retirement.
She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Bryant College. Mrs. Duponte was a founding member of St. John's Couples Club in New Bedford, a founding member of Mattapoisett Land Trust, and was a former member and past secretary of Mattapoisett Women's Club, Mattapoisett Historical Society, Mattapoisett Council on Aging and the Mattapoisett Garden Club.
Survivors include a son, Charles H. Duponte and his wife Karen of Mattapoisett; 2 daughters, Carmelia D. Grizmala and her husband Fredrick of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Susan D. Conway and her husband Michael of Hopkinton; 2 sisters, Lucy Perry and Beatrice Gonsalves, both of Georgia; a brother, Henrique Rogers of Dartmouth; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Grizmala Liu, Julie Curtice, Erin Conway, Richard Conway, Lili Duponte and David Duponte; a great-grandson, Nathan Curtice; many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Laura Rogers.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett Tuesday, February 9th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, February 8th from 5-7 PM.
