Obituary

WAYLAND: Robert F. “Bob” Megson, 93, died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Natick following a period of declining health.
He was born in Lawrence on August 15, 1916 the son of the late Smith B. Megson and Laura May (Bourdelais) Megson.
Bob is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 68 years, Virginia E. “Ginny” (Stevens) Megson of Wayland. He was the loving father of Cheri L. Harrington and her partner Mark Jardin of Vineyard Haven. He is also survived by his cherished granddaughter Alicia J. Van Neil and her husband Glenn and their son William G. Van Neil all of East Granby, CT. He was the brother of Vernon “Mike” Megson and his wife Joan Balser of Naples, FL and leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Curtis Megson and his sister Frances Weigler.
Mr. Megson has been a resident of Wayland for over 58 years and previously resided in Lawrence, Watertown and Waltham. For several years he was in the Coast Guard Reserve. In his earlier years, he was associated with the Waltham Watch Factory and retired after over 30 years as a Foreman with Raytheon Co, in the semi-conductor division in Quincy and Lowell. He has been an active member of the Wayland Senior Citizens and enjoyed his time at the senior center. He and his wife Ginny loved fly fishing in fresh water as well as skiing and traveling throughout the United States and Europe over the years. Bob enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting, horseback riding and being in his vegetable garden. He also liked to spend countless hours researching genealogy. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Wayland. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.
Interment will be in the Megson family lot in Mt. Feake Cemetery in Waltham following the service.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial gifts in Bob’s memory may be sent to the Wayland Council on Aging, Senior Citizen Center, 41 Cochituate Rd, Wayland, MA 01778 and would be greatly appreciated.
