Worcester-Helen E. "Bette" Hodgerney passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 2, 2010. She leaves three daughters, Sally Hodgerney and Deborah Towns, both of Worcester, and Tracey Ellison of Texas; two grandsons, Robert Towns and Anthony Etre; and a great-grandson, Jase Towns. She was predeceased by her brother, William D. Burrowes (d. 1942), and her twin sister, Barbara (Burrowes) Hill (d. 1995).
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Helen S. (Boshart) and Donald S. Burrowes. Bette earned her Bachelor's degree and teaching certificate from Lesley University in Cambridge. She taught kindergarten in Seattle and Worcester. She also was a long-time employee of Zayres and Ames Department Stores. Bette was a member of Second Church of Christ Scientist. She enjoyed crafting, cooking, baking, and gardening.
Funeral services will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Thursday, February 4, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
