Obituary

Ruth Caroline (Johnson) Petrie, 72, of 215 Lovell Road, Holden, passed away suddenly Thursday, September 25, at her home.

She leaves her husband of 48 years, Elwin A. Petrie, two sons, James A. Petrie and his wife Debra Blood-Petrie of Leominster, and John B. Petrie and his wife Lisa M. Stevens of Rutland; a daughter, Sandra L. Hachey and her husband, Michael Hachey of West Boylston; three grandchildren, Christopher J. Petrie of Leominster, Sarah E. Hachey of West Boylston and Anna E. Petrie of Rutland. She also leaves two sisters, Phyllis C. O’Grady of Rochester Hills, Michigan and Lois Krutchik, and a cousin, Carolyn F. Klingloff of Huntington, Connecticut.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Everett and Eva (Andrelonis) Johnson. She was a graduate of Commerce High School and she worked many years in various departments for the City of Worcester. She enjoyed art, music, and nature and caring for her grandchildren. Several years ago, she painted a portrait of one of Worcester’s former mayors, which hangs in the third floor hallway of City Hall. She was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be held Monday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m., in Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster Street, Worcester. Calling hours are Sunday, September 28, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701-4688.
