Obituary

Jerry Wayne Hawkins, 67, of Goose Creek, widower of Patricia Rae Darnell Hawkins died Monday, January 25, 2010 at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 2 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville.
Burial will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner.
Friends may visit at the funeral home from 6 until 8 o’clock Saturday evening.

Jerry “Wayne” was born April 6, 1942 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, son of the late Robert Glenn Hawkins and Hazel Louise Brewer. He attended Connie Maxwell Children’s Home of Greenwood, SC, Greenwood High School, and the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. He was a member of the Low Country Fleet Reserve and a member of Calf Pen Hunt Club in Yemassee, SC. He retired from the United States Navy after 30 years as Chief Petty Officer.

Surviving are : 2 daughters: Deborah H. Chavis of Goose Creek and Christina H. Tapia of Goose Creek, SC. 2 granddaughters: Carmen Tapia of Goose Creek and Emma Chavis of Goose Creek, 4 sisters: Barbara H. Pratt of Honolulu, Hawaii, Rebecca H. Upton of Spartanburg, SC, Bernice H. Brewer of Greenville, SC and Sarah H. Morikawa of Honolulu, Hawaii, 2 brother-in-laws: Robert T. Darnell of Youngsville, North Carolina and David A. Darnell of Saluda, SC.
