James “Jack” J. Labadini, Sr., 91, a longtime Windham resident died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry. NH. Mr. Labadini was born in Boston, MA on December 3, 1918, son of the late John and Catherine (Cavedaschi) Labadini. He lived in the house across the street from Paul Revere’s house in the North End of Boston. He grew up in S. Boston and in his youth he was a wonderful athlete. Jack played football with the South Boston Chippewas and baseball for the Giroux Club in Somerville, MA. As an excellent pitcher he earned the nickname “The Black Ace.” In 1967 he was the MA State 10 Pin Bowling Champion. Jack was also a member of the Dante Club in Somerville, MA. He started working as a waiter, and enjoyed working at the Lafayette Inn in Foxboro, MA. He later became an iron worker and at 91 years old was the last surviving member of Iron Workers Local #501. Jack was involved in all the iron work for the bridges on Rt. 93 when it was initially being built. He enjoyed food and cooking, music, keeping up with current events, and talking, especially reminiscing about his younger days. Jack loved his home, his family and he loved life!
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 67 years, Mary G. (Guglietta) Labadini of Windham, two sons, James J. Labadini, Jr. and his wife Louise of Windham, Dennis Labadini and his wife Jean of Scottsdale, AZ and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Visiting hours were held Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 2-6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH. Funeral services were held 10:00am Monday in the funeral home with burial to follow in Cemetery on the Plain, Windham.
