Obituary

MYSTIC- Burton Allan Wilbur Sr., 83, of 128 Pumpkin Hill Road, Mystic, died Wednesday morning at his home.

He was born in Groton on May 18, 1920 the son of Clarence L. and Alice Twiss Wilbur. He attended local schools and later served in the US Army 1944-1946.

He was employed for the Town of Groton Public Works Department for 41 years, retiring in 1982. After his retirement, he worked for the former Comrie’s Landscape Service in Mystic for 10 years.

He was a Life Member of the Old Mystic Fire Dept. and was a longtime member of the Old Mystic Baptist Church. He was also a State Forest Fire Warden and was a lifetime Red Sox fan.

Burt was married to Kathleen M. “Kate” Barrett Wilbur in Groton on April 27, 1940. In addition to his wife, Burt leaves his children, Burton Wilbur Jr. of Groton, William Wilbur of Preston, John Wilbur of Mystic, Marilyn Champ of Pawcatuck, and Timothy Wilbur of East Lyme, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predecased by two brothers, Leon and Robert Wilbur.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Friday from 12-1:45pm. A Service will immediately follow at 2pm. Burial with military honors will be in Elm Grove Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Old Mystic Fire Department, Old Mystic 06382 or Hospice of SECT.
