Edith (Salisbury) Swanson, age 97, of Flanders Rd, Mystic, passed away Wednesday morning, January 27, 2010 at Apple Rehabilitation Center in Mystic.
Born in Griswold, Ct, on October 19, 1912 she was the daughter of Fred and Ellen Salisbury. Edith was married to Gustaf C. Swanson on June 16, 1934.
Mrs. Swanson retired at the age of 90, after seven decades of devoted service to numerous families and friends in the local area.
Edith will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Noreen Swanson of Kennebunkport, Maine (Noreen's mother, Mary Shea Trant, also passed away this week); Edith is also survived by her sister Shirley Tousant of Hardwick, VT; three grand daughters, Deborah Whipple of New London, Jeannie Stafford of North Stonington, and Laurie Whipple of Mystic; two grandsons, Michael and Edward of Groton, 10 great grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Gustaf Swanson, daughter Edith Whipple, son Charles Swanson; her siblings, Margaret Webster, Gertrude Hale, Robert Salisbury; and a grandson Robert Whipple.
Edith’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Friday from 5-7pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30am with the Rev. David poole, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at at Elm Grove Cemetery, Rte. 27, Mystic.
