SALEM - Barbara M. (Phelan) Glackin, 87, of Salem, wife of the late Arthur W. Glackin, Jr., died Monday evening, January 25, 2010 in the Beverly Hospital.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Howard P. and Madolyn C. (Melden) Phelan. She attended Salem public schools and was a graduate of Salem High School.
Prior to her retirement at the age of 80, Barbara worked in the medical records department at Beverly Hospital for over 40 years.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Salem, where she was a member of the Guild. She was a Pack Leader in Cub Scouts, led a Brownie Group and was active in Girl Scouts. Mrs Glackin has a love for candlepin bowling and was, until her recent illness, a member of the Bowl ‘76 Bowling League.
She is survived by her son, Robin Glackin and his wife, Cai, of Frisco, Texas, one daughter Carol Therrien and her husband Bob of Beverly, one brother, Howard P. Phelan, Jr. of Salem, 4 grandchildren, Jason Morris of Topsfield, Kelly Morris of Salem, Lisa Carlson of Plano, TX., Quinn Nagurney of Frisco, TX., eight great grandchildren: Nina, Emree, Piper, Cora, Coen, Sadie, Jasper, and Gage and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by one brother Paul E. Phelan.
Her funeral service will be held Friday, January 30, 2010 at 10 am at the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Visiting hours are Thursday, 4 to 8 pm.
