Ray T. Balthrop, Jr., 62, Clarksville, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hilldale Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Lewis, and Rev. Terry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service Friday at the church. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born July 5, 1947 in Clarksville, son of the late Ray Thomas Balthrop and Willie Mae Butts Balthrop. He was a member of Hilldale Baptist Church where he taught the 10th grade Sunday School class. He was a Eagle Scout, member of the Governor's Club at Austin Peay State University, and was a very avid supporter of Golf in Clarksville. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Balthrop was owner of Neblett Frame Outlet and after retirement he was employed at Mason Rudolph Golf Course. Survivors include his wife, Sherri Lynn Steinhorst Balthrop; two sons, Michael Thomas Balthrop and Brian Thomas Balthrop; a brother, Joe Balthrop; a sister, Becky Balthrop; grandchildren, nieces, and great nephews. Pallbearers will be Jerry Knight, Larry Goolsby, Kenny Taylor, Ritchie Stuard, Conn Butts, Kirk Heminghway, and Tommy Carman.
