Barbara (Amadon) McKibben, age 86, of Marla Ave., Ledyard, CT passed away peacefully at her home Saturday morning, January 23, 2010. She was the beloved wife of the late James G. McKibben Jr.
She was born in New London, CT the daughter of the late Charles & Ina (Cayton) Amadon.
Barbara was raised in New London and attended New London Schools, graduating from WMI & Lowell Ridley Business School. She worked at CT Broach & Machine Co. in New London owned by her father. She met James G. McKibben Jr. and they were married on September 14, 1944 at Battery Park, New York. They began their loving life together in Waterford, CT. and eventually moved to Ledyard, CT. to begin raising their family in the early 50’s
She enjoyed her family and had a great faith in the Lord. She was the calligrapher for the Ledyard Congregational Church for many years. Also she enjoyed gardening and was a gifted artist, had a great sense of humor and loved her cats. Barbara helped all walks of people and supported the Veterans and Salvation Army in her quiet loving ways.
She is survived by her son James G. McKibben III and his wife Barbara, Jeffery C. McKibben and his wife Kathy, David J. McKibben and his wife Christine all of Ledyard, her daughter Susan J. Granata and her husband Anthony of Groton, her daughter in-law Luana McKibben of San Jose CA., 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and her sister Carol Wood of Waterford. She was predeceased by her children, Barbara Clough and John McKibben; two grandchildren; and her siblings, Janet Roland and Edward Amadon.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday from 5-7pm. A Service will be held on Friday at 10:30am at the funeral home with burial following at Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Salvation Army of New London CT or the Veterans (VFW of Ledyard).
