DARTMOUTH - Arthur William Gifford, age 79 years, of Dartmouth, died Saturday, January 23, 2010, after a period of declining health.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Hubert and Edith (Allen) Gifford, he was a high school graduate and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired construction superintendent working in the construction field for many years.
A former member of the South Primitive Methodist Church, he attended Grace Episcopal Church in recent years.
Survivors include his companion, Muriel Pehrson of Dartmouth; his daughter, Deborah Diane Koster of New Bedford; his sons, George Gifford of New Bedford and William and Timothy Gifford of Texas; his brother, Hubert Gifford Jr., and his wife, Meribah of Dartmouth; his sister, Grace Brook and her husband, Robert of Dartmouth; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Shirley Gifford.
Visitation will take place at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., NB on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, from 5 to 8 P.M. His service will be on Wednesday at 11 A.M., in the funeral home. Burial in the Veteran's National Cemetery in Bourne will be private at a later date.
