Obituary

Grace A. Pleadwell (Absalom), of Plymouth formerly of Quincy, MA and Foster, RI, passed away on January 15th at Bay Path at Duxbury at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late Walter R. Pleadwell, she is survived by her daughters Jeana Homola of Pembroke, Susan Pleadwell of Plymouth and Betsy Puckett of Foster, RI. She also leaves her sister Lois A. Valencourt of Salisbury, MD; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Born in Philadelphia, PA she graduated from Quincy High School and Bridgewater Normal School. She was a substitute teacher for many years in the Quincy Public Schools, and later taught a special needs class in Killingly, CT before retiring.

She was a Past Worthy Matron in the Order of Eastern Star for the Atlantic, MA; Danielson, CT and Plymouth, MA chapters. An avid traveler, she has visited the United Kingdom, Europe, Malta, Hawaii, Australia, Alaska, Aruba and most recently China. Grace was always active in charitable work, serving at an elderly meals program while in her 80s, tutoring children with learning disabilities for RSVP, and serving on many committees at the 2nd Church of Plymouth where she also sang in the alto choir. She loved to cook and try new recipes, and share her creations with the members of the various groups she belonged to. She bowled in a league until she was 96, and dabbled in painting, pottery and various handicrafts.

Visiting hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rt 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) on Sunday, January 31st from 1 to 3 PM with a memorial service at 2:15 PM. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to the Friends of Ellisville Marsh, Grace Pleadwell Memorial, P.O Box 1728, Sagamore Beach, MA 02562.
