Alice M. (Burr) Scott, 97, a lifelong resident of Mansfield passed away peacefully on Saturday January 23, 2010 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late Chester R. Scott.
Born in Mansfield on May 6, 1912 she was a loving daughter of the late Charles G. and Mary C. (Marr) Burr.
Alice was educated in Mansfield public schools and was the Valedictorian of her graduating class in 1929. She continued her education by attending Boston University.
Mrs. Scott was a retired secretary and had worked for 17 years at the Foxboro Co. prior to retiring in 1977. She had formerly been employed at the former S.W. Card Co. in Mansfield for 33 years.
For over 65 years Alice was an active member of the Orthodox Congregational Church in Mansfield and belonged to the Women’s Fellowship Club and the former Optimist Club at the church.
Alice was a longtime volunteer for the Mansfield Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was a member of former Mansfield Outing Club and the Foxboro Co. 10 Year Club. She enjoyed fishing and especially spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her dear sister Margaret B. Stearns of Norton formerly of Mansfield. Mrs. Scott is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews including Geoffrey Stearns and his wife Susan of East Harwich, Rodney Stearns and his wife Constance of Mansfield and Selwyn Stearns and his wife Donna of Mansfield. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday February 6th at 11:00 A.M. in the Orthodox Congregational Church 17 West St. Mansfield. A reception will be held at the church following services. Private burial will be in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, Alice’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Memorial Fund at the Orthodox Congregational Church 17 West St. Mansfield, MA 02048.
