GLOUCESTER: Mario P. Cardone, 53, died Sunday afternoon, January 17, 2010, at his family's home on the Fort following a battle with cancer.
Born in Boston on February 9, 1956, he was the son of Paul J. Cardone of Gloucester and the late Mary E. (Kadlick) Cardone. He was a member of the Gloucester High School class of 1974.
He had resided in Florida and Georgia for the past twenty-five years before returning to Gloucester in October. He was self-employed as a tile setter and plasterer.
Mario was known to be an extremely talented artist, having created incredible pieces in both watercolors and charcoal. He used his creativity to personalize a lot of his tile work in the south by including hand painted tiles and sculptures. He was very proud of his work and loved to share his designs with his family.
In addition to his father, he is survived by four children, Caroline, wife of Stowe Burke, Andrew, Lindsy and Morgan, a granddaughter, Caroline "Minnie" Burke, his seven siblings, Angela, wife of Harvey Smith, Marianne Cardone, Stephanie Cardone, Irene, wife of Clayton Sova, Rosetta, wife of Kevin Chipperini, Victoria, wife of Frank Souza, Steven, husband of Laura Cardone and many aunts and uncles nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was also predeceased by his brother, Paul J. Cardone, Jr.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 - 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Prayers of committal will be held privately in the Calvary Cemetery.
