Obituary

Betty (Tripp) House, 85, of Long Highway, Little Compton, RI died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at St. Anne's Hospital, Fall River. She was the wife of the late Vernon E. House and John Wolford, Sr.

She was born in South Dartmouth daughter of the late Eldon and Sally (Eller) Tripp.

Mrs. House had been employed with the Department of Agriculture and worked in Washington, D.C. as an Assistant to Congressmen James B. Utt and Gordon Canfield. She was co-owner of a Harley Davidson Sales & Service franchise in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. during the 1950's and 1960's. Upon her retirement she made Little Compton her home. She owned and operated a wool import business,Appleton Bros. of London, and currently assisted her daughter in a family agricultural business. She was a former member of the Little Compton Zoning Board of Review, the Kenwood Country Club and Corinthian Yacht Club in Washington, D.C. She had served on the Democratic Town Committee, Little Compton and also at one time on theLittle Compton Town Planning Board. She had been a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother, an avid reader and gardener and loved to engage in lively discussions.

Survivors include 2 sons: John Wolford, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA and Richard E. Wolford of McLean, VA; 2 daughters: Dawn Sisson and Jane Gavin both of Little Compton, RI; 2 sisters: Winifred McGrath of North Providence, RI and Sally Kennedy of Raleigh, NC; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. She was sister of the late Ruth Steinle and Bradford Tripp.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend:

Funeral services Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at the Little Compton Congregational Church, Little Compton, RI.

In lieu of flowers memorialdonations may be made to the Little Compton Volunteer Fire Department, Little Compton, RI

Interment in Union Cemetery, Little Compton.
