John F. Rogers, Jr., 85 years, of Brockton died unexpectedly January 12 at Brockton Hospital. He was the beloved husband for 60 years of the late Beatrice A. (Clifford) Rogers who died January 17. A lifelong resident of Brockton, John was the son of the late John F. and Margaret (MacDonald) Rogers. He was a 1942 graduate of Brockton High School and received his accounting degree from Burdett College. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the 337th Air Service Group Army Pacific Theatre. John worked for the E. Norris Brown Company for 19 years, before becoming part owner and elected Treasurer for another 14 years. He retired in 1982. John was an active communicant of St. Patrick Church and a member for 25 years of its St. Vincent de Paul Society serving as president for many years. He was a past president of the Rotary Club of the Bridgewaters 1980-1981 and a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served as Chairman of the Brockton Old Colony YMCA Youth Committee. John enjoyed fishing, swimming and was an avid Red Sox fan.
John is survived by four sons Peter of Brockton, David of Easton, Bill of Upton and Richard of Lakeville; three daughters Susan Rogers of Norton, Paula Rogers of Brockton and Patricia Pratt of Granville; 11 grandchildren Sherri McGraw, Spencer and Mallory Rogers, Christopher and Nathan Rogers, Beatrice, Marguerite and William Pratt, Zachary, Xavier and Chase Rogers and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late John F. “Jeff” Rogers, III.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Saturday at 9am. Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church at 10am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting Hours Friday 4-8pm.
