Joseph H. Ferguson, 79 years, a resident of West Acres Nursing Home for the past three years, died Saturday September 20, 2003, after a period of failing health. He was born and raised in Boston and was a graduate of Boston High School. He had been employed by Local 34-26, working as a waiter in various Boston hotels. A US Army veteran of WWII he served in the Naples Foggia Campaign, receiving the European African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal with one bronze service star and the Purple Heart.
He was a fan of baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox, an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles, and was an accomplished painter, specializing in oils. He is survived by the Heaney family of Dorchester.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 9am in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
