SPENCER/STURBRIDGE-James C. Snow of 7 Crescent Way, passed away unexpectedly January 16, 2010 at the UMASS Memorial Healthcare-University Campus, Worcester from complications arising during open-heart surgery. James died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim, son of the late Darrell and Lillian Snow, was born in Spencer and lived there until 2007 when he and his wife Pat moved to Sturbridge. He was a graduate of David Prouty High School Class of 1951 and a United States Army veteran having served in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was employed for more than 30 years as a systems analyst at State Mutual Life Assurance Company before retiring in 1991.
Upon returning from the service, Jim met and married his soul mate and loving wife of 52 years Patricia (Lyons) Snow. In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons Michael J. Snow of Webster and Jeffrey D. Snow of Stowe Vt. Jim also leaves two daughters Lynne A. Peters wife of David Peters of Brimfield and Karen J. Snow of Spencer. In addition to his children, Jim leaves behind six grandchildren, Jaime, Jennifer, Benjamin, Tucker, Kellyn, and Luke. They were the joy of his retired life.
Jim was an avid golfer and fisherman. He also enjoyed running until injuries forced him to seek other forms of recreation. Jim was particularly proud of having completed the Keene, NH Marathon with his co-workers in 1986. He also enjoyed following the Boston sports teams but remained a loyal NY Giants fan. Jim was also passionate about the ancestral research he had completed over the years having traced his paternal lineage back 17 generations to the arrival of Richard and Annis (Barrat) Snow to this country from England in 1639.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 20 at 11 A.M. in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. The family has requested all who wish to attend the Mass go directly to the church. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 P.M. in the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Following cremation burial of ashes will be at the convenience of the family in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. John’s Church, c/o Food for the Poor, 40 Temple St. Worcester, MA., 01604.
