Obituary

Walter Szalkowski, 68, of Derry, NH died Friday, January 15, 2010 at his home. Mr. Szalkowski was born in Chelsea, MA on June 27, 1941, son of the late Anthony and Helen (Skonetski) Szalkowski. He was a recent resident of Derry, an eight year resident of Moultonborough, NH and he was raised in Chelsea. Walter served with the US Marines during Vietnam. He worked for 32 years for GE Aircraft in Lynn, MA as an assembler, retiring in 2001. He was a fantastic provider and if you needed anything you knew you could count on him for anything. He enjoyed the beach, the sun and his condo in Florida. Walter loved tattoos, classic cars and Harleys. He was a member of the NRA and the Iron Eagles. Walter was a talented artist and machinist and he enjoyed football, playing in High School and while in the marines. He loved having a beer with the boys and he enjoyed having a good time.

He is survived by his daughter, Cristi Elinor Szalkowski of Derry, his beloved dog, Lucky, a sister in law, several nieces and nephews, many friends and Big Bri. He was predeceased by his wife Gail W. (Barrar) Szalkowski in 2001 and by his brother Anthony Szalkowski.

Visiting hours were held 6-8pm Monday, January 18, 2010 in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Visiting continued Tuesday from 9:00am until the 10:00am funeral service in the funeral home. Burial with military honors followed in the NH Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.
