Obituary

Hanson – John F. Bell 88 of Hanson, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday January 13 in Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late E. Vivian (Woodlock) Bell.

Born May 18, 1921 in Boston, he was the son of the late Francis and Jane (Fox) Bell.

John was a US Navy veteran having served in combat during WWII aboard the USS Elsmore. After his military duty he became a firefighter for the city of Newton until his retirement after thirty years of service. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Hyannis and he presently belonged to the Bridgewater Chapter #488.

He is survived by his daughter Diane Corr and her husband Ronald of Hanson; his grandchildren Stacey Slayter and her husband Brian of Hanson, Stephen Corr and his fiancée Andrea Horsley of Hanson, Joseph Corr and his wife Chrissi of Carver and Jennifer Corr of Rockland; his eight great grandchildren Sarah and Jack Slayter of Hanson, Amanda Corr of Bridgewater, Jessica and Stephen Corr of Rockland and Joseph, Domenic and Alexxis Corr all of Carver.

His funeral will be held Tuesday January 19 at 9 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a mass at 10 AM in St. Joseph the Worker Church, Hanson. Burial will follow in the Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson. Visiting hours will be held Monday January 18 from 4-8 PM.
