Obituary

John G. "Duke" Liarikos, 76, of New Bedford died Monday January 11, 2010 suddenly at St. Luke's Hospital.

Born in New York City, the son of the late George F. and Jean (Panek) Liarikos, he lived in Acushnet for most of his life.

Mr. Liarikos was the former proprietor of Stanley Oil Company until his retirement.

He was a member of the Country Club of New Bedford. He served on the Board of Directors of New England Fuel Institute.

An avid horseman, he was a western history affectionado and Civil War enthusiast.

Survivors include five children, John G. Liarikos, II and his wife Kim of Dartmouth, Diana Mascarello and her husband John of Taunton, Jay M. Liarikos and his companion Christine Bond, Ann Marie Liarikos, and Catherine Martin and her husband Scott, all of Fairhaven; a brother, George F. Liarikos, Jr. of Rochester; a sister, Janet M. Loranger of New Bedford; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Jeannine Y. Devlin and Marc Liarikos.

A private family service was held on Thursday morning at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Mass.
