Obituary

Dorothy D. Mann, 95, of Walterboro, South Carolina died on Saturday January 9, 2010 at Veterans Victory House Nursing Home, Walterboro. Dorothy was born and raised in Methuen and was a member of First Church Congregational, Methuen. She joined The US Navy soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor. She and her 3 younger brothers, Donald, William and Robert joined the service during this same time frame. After completing her time in The Navy, she worked for The Navy in Washington, DC as a civil government worker for the remainder of her full working career. Dorothy never married an became a foster mother and was a wonderful aunt to her 9 nieces and nephews. She moved to South Carolina about 8 years ago to be closer to her brother, Donald. She became very close friends with Linda Hardee who soon became Dorothy's caregiver and close friend. Dorothy passed away holding Linda's hand. She always missed her mother and father and Linda told her it was ok to let go and go back home to be with her family.
Her family members include her sister-in-law, Ruth Mann, her niece, Betty Mann, Wendy Klemka and Karen Taylor and her nephews, Robert Mann, David Mann, Johnny Mann, Ricky Mann and Don Mann.
There are no Calling hours. Graveside services will be on Saturday January 16, 2010 at 9:30 am at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Methuen. Arrangements are by The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen
