James Wesley Mosley, age 82, passed away January 8, 2010 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was born April 27, 1927 in Batesville, MS to Commodore Joy and Ollie Mae Johnson Rockette and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Sand Springs Methodist Church and later joined South Hopewell Church.
Funeral services will take place at South Hopewell Church in Oxford, MS at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 16, 2010 with Rev. Terry Wortham, Sr. officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will take place at Orwood Cemetery in Water Valley, MS. Pallbearers will be James Harris, Sr., James Harris, Jr., Bobby Rudd, Vincent Rockette, Hosea Rockette, and Willie Rockette.
Survivors include his stepson, Charles Woods and his wife Willie Mae of Oxford, MS; his brother, Hossie Rockette of Batesville, MS; two sisters, Ollie Nell Sims and her husband Charles of Chicago, IL and Edna Irene Barr of Memphis, TN; a special stepsister, Claudia Bibbs of Batesville, MS; four more sisters, Annie White of Oxford, MS, Dorothy Fondren of Batesville, MS. Lula Pratcher of Memphis, TN, and Nina Hervey and husband Freddie of Detroit, MI; four more brothers, Willie C. Willingham and his wife Emma of Oxford, MS, L. P. Joy of Oxford, MS, L. A. Joy and his wife Bertha of Water Valley, MS and James A. Joy and his wife Candice of Pittsburgh, PA; and three grandchildren, Vada Woods and Melissa Woods, both of Oxford, MS and Charles F. Woods of Nashville, TN; and four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Dean Woods Mosley, and four brothers and two sisters.
